5.202

[Seng]zhao says: One who is good at subduing himself dwells in existence without being defiled by existence, and resides in emptiness without being defiled by emptiness—this is the utmost of experiencing nothing. Because the mind has nothing experienced, there is nothing it does not experience; because there is nothing it does not experience, he can forever share with sentient beings the experiencing of all sensations. 'All sensations' refers to painful sensation, pleasurable sensation, and neither-painful-nor-pleasurable sensation. While the Buddha's teachings are not yet complete and sentient beings are not yet delivered, he does not extinguish the three sensations alone to realize the fruit. [Dao]sheng says: Taking one's stand on the sentiment of suffering from sensation and wishing to seek non-extinction, one will certainly grasp the point where affliction can adequately be removed as the wondrous ultimate, no longer aspiring to exhaust the principle. This then is verifying the non-meaningful and halting midway.
