5.210

[Seng]zhao says: The gathering and dispersing of conditionally arisen dharmas is not oneself; meeting, they have form; dispersing, they have no image. Dharmas are simply so of themselves; what do they have to do with me? Afflictions arise because of my false conceptions regarding dharmas, making afflictions for myself. How could dharmas cause me to give rise to false conceptions? Thus, false conception is the root of illness, and dharmas are not my affliction. Therefore, the arising of instruction and guidance merely eliminates the root of illness, not dharmas. [Dao]sheng says: Only after the root of illness is severed is the illness eliminated.
