肇曰：心遇外緣煩惱橫起，故名客塵。菩薩之法要除客塵而起大悲。若愛見未斷則煩惱彌滋，故應捨之。生曰：愛見是惑想所起，為客塵也，除之乃可以起大悲者矣。

[Seng]zhao says: "When the mind encounters external conditions, defilements arise haphazardly; hence they are called adventitious defilements. The principle of the bodhisattva is precisely to eliminate adventitious defilements and arouse great compassion. If affection and views are not yet severed, defilements will flourish all the more; hence they should be abandoned." [Dao]sheng says: "Affection and views arise from delusive thoughts and are adventitious defilements; only when they are eliminated can one arouse great compassion."
