肇曰：小乘唯自修己根，不善人根。菩薩雖同其自修而善知人根，令彼我俱順也。
[Seng]zhao says: The Hinayāna only cultivates its own faculties and is not skilled regarding others' faculties. Although the bodhisattva shares in their self-cultivation, he skillfully knows others' faculties, causing both others and self to accord [with the Dharma].
