肇曰：菩薩之疾以大悲為根，因之而起。答初問也。生曰：自非大悲，病不妄起也。
[Seng]zhao says: A bodhisattva's illness takes great compassion as its root, and arises due to it. This answers the initial question. [Dao]sheng says: Were it not for great compassion, the illness would not arise without reason.
