6.127

什曰：若能行忍，則內不自累、外不傷物、故言護彼我也。凡此中慈上行字、梵本中無。肇曰：未有得真實慈而不護彼己致忿諍者，可名忍辱也。

[Kumāra]jīva says: If one can practice patience, then inwardly one does not burden oneself, and outwardly one does not harm others; therefore it is said to protect both others and oneself. Generally, the word 'practice' before 'loving-kindness' in these lines is absent in the Sanskrit text. [Seng]zhao says: There has never been one who attained true loving-kindness who failed to protect both others and oneself, thereby bringing about wrath and contention; this may be called patience.
