肇曰：既知善之可生、惡之可滅，將兩捨以求宗，故逆尋其本也。生曰：夫一善一惡者迭為根本，永無判也。要當求其本原而觀之者，然後判矣。

[Seng]zhao says: Having learned that the wholesome can be generated and the bad extinguished, he intends to relinquish both to seek the fundamental principle, and thus retroactively traces their root. [Dao]sheng says: Wholesome and unwholesome alternate as roots for each other, never being definitively settled. One must search out and contemplate their original source; only then can they be distinguished.
