[Seng]zhao says: Intending to distinguish the difference between the Great and the Small, she caused the flowers to be like this. [Dao]sheng says: The prohibition against adorning with flowers was originally intended to remove feelings of craving. If one has no craving for fine adornments, even if they remain on one's body all day long, how could there be a violation? Yet using supernatural power to remove the flowers, detesting their clinging to the body, was just an attempt to preserve the precepts. It was about to show that detesting something inevitably invites fondness; though wishing to comply with the Vinaya, they instead violated its true spirit. In that case, repelling them with the very root that invites fondness, how could they be removed? Therefore, through this event this principle was clarified; the principle is also like the event.
