什曰：四攝聚眾，猶眾妓之引物也。肇曰：四攝悅眾，以當妓女也。生曰：悅以取人，四攝理也。
[Kumāra]jīva says: The four means of embrace gather the multitude, just as the multitude of entertainers attracts people. [Seng]zhao says: The four means of embrace delight the multitude, corresponding to singing girls. [Dao]sheng says: Pleasing so as to win over people is the principle of the four means of embrace.
