7.154

[Kumāra]jīva says: Faith, morality, learning, relinquishment, wisdom, shame, and conscience. Living at home, one can relinquish wealth; having gone forth from household life, one can relinquish the five desires and the afflictions. Because of faith in goodness, one upholds morality; upholding morality halts evil; having halted evil, one advances in all kinds of good; advancing in all kinds of good essentially depends on extensive learning; hearing the Dharma, one is able to relinquish; being able to relinquish, wisdom arises. Thus the five matters are explained in succession. These five matters are the jewels, while shame and conscience are the guardians. Guardians guard wealth, and the master is also the wealth; therefore the seven matters are collectively called 'riches'.
[Dao]sheng says: The riches and jewels are seven; their principle is inexhaustible, the utmost of wealth.
