什曰：如過去世時人無禮義，欲殘害長老。猴象及鳥推敬長老，令人修善咸相和須，如《大智度論》中說。

[Kumāra]jīva says: For instance, in past worlds people had no propriety and righteousness, and wanted to harm the elders. A monkey, an elephant, and a bird deferred to and respected the elder, causing people to cultivate goodness and all live harmoniously together, as explained in the *Dà zhìdù lùn*.
