肇曰：夫妙極之道必有妙極之因，而曰塵勞為種者何耶？生曰：佛為至極之慧，而以眾惡為種，未可孑孤，故問云爾。
[Seng]zhao says: The ultimate, wondrous path must have an ultimate, wondrous cause; why then say that defilements are the seed? [Dao]sheng says: The Buddha is the supreme wisdom, yet all evils are said to be its seed; this cannot be left unsupported, so he asks thus.
