[Seng]zhao says: If one considers the path to be the path and non-paths to be non-paths, then liking and disliking arise together, and defilements and encumbrances become increasingly manifest; how could one open the mind to the subtle intent and penetrate the path of equality? If one can refrain from taking the path as the path and non-paths as non-paths, right and wrong are severed from the mind, and encountering any matter one can ride upon it. Therefore, dwelling in what is right, one has no sentiment of validating the right; riding upon the wrong, one has no thought of invalidating the wrong. Hence one can view beauty and ugliness equally, tread upon adversity and always remain compliant, blend one's light with the worldly defilements, and the darker it becomes the brighter one shines. This can be called penetrating the unobstructed and equal Buddha path. [Dao]sheng says: Transcending their outer limits yet practicing within them is how all responsive transformations are. Taking the goddess as the case in point, he broadens the principle.
