彼諸菩薩問維摩詰：今世尊釋迦牟尼佛以何說法？維摩詰言：此土眾生剛強難化，故佛為說剛強之語以調伏之。
Those bodhisattvas asked Vimalakīrti: "Now, by what means does the World-Honoured One, Śākyamuni Buddha, preach the Dharma?" Vimalakīrti said: "The sentient beings of this land are unyielding and difficult to transform; therefore the Buddha speaks unyielding words to tame them.
