肇曰：滿願由積德，豈捨有為之所能？生曰：別翻前也。以慈悲為懷者，不得貪己樂也。欲滿本願者，不得計己苦也。此取功德前句、智慧後句，略舉二端為備也矣。

[Seng]zhao says: Fulfilling vows stems from accumulating virtue; how could one who abandons the conditioned be able to do this? [Dao]sheng says: This inverts the previous [lines] specifically. One who harbors compassion cannot covet personal joy. One who wishes to fulfill original vows cannot calculate personal suffering. Here, taking the previous clause of merit and the subsequent clause of wisdom, he briefly presents the two aspects as complete.
