[Seng]zhao says: The dharmakāya is like empty space, not something arisen or created from the four great elements. [Dao]sheng says: Although previously investigating the absence of a Buddha with human characteristics, it merely expresses that there is no real human Buddha, but is not yet sufficient to clarify why the Buddha ultimately has no human Buddha. If there were a human Buddha, he should exist by arising from the four great elements. That which exists by arising from the four great elements is a person of saṃsāra. The Buddha is not like this; existing for the sake of response, the Buddha is eternally non-existent [in terms of substantial being].
