[Kumāra]jīva says: "Sustained by the buddhas' awe-inspiring spiritual power" means being held in the mindful attention of the buddhas. When one is held in the mindful attention of the buddhas, nothing can ruin or break one, just as fish roe, being minded by their mother, are sure to reach maturity. [Seng]zhao says: Heavenly moisture is impartial, yet it does not moisten dry wood; though the buddhas' majesty is universal, it does not establish what has no roots. Those who are sustained must have deep roots in the Path.
