[Seng]zhao says: "Mindfulness" is right mindfulness. "Samādhi" is right samādhi. "Dhāraṇī" means retaining the good without losing it, and holding back the evil so it does not arise. Retaining without leaking or forgetting is called dhāraṇī. Dhāraṇī is of two kinds: dhāraṇī associated with mind, and dhāraṇī dissociated [from mind]. "Eloquence" refers to the seven eloquences. These four are essential utilities of the mahāsattva, and therefore are constantly uninterrupted. Another recension reads: "Their mindfulness does not long cease, up to their eloquence being perfected." [Kumāra]jīva says: "Mindfulness" is the mindfulness of the unexcelled Path. "Uninterrupted" means not interrupted midway. The meaning of "uninterrupted" runs through the following three dharmas as well. Bodhisattvas attain these four dharmas deeply and solidly; passing through lifetimes they are not lost, and traversing kalpas they become ever clearer, which is why it says "uninterrupted."
