[Kumāra]jīva says: An offering of material goods is of no use to the Buddha and of no benefit to sentient beings, and hence is not what is rejoiced in. The Tathāgata accumulated kalpas originally for sentient beings; if one reveres and accords with the scriptures and practices as taught, this accords with and delights the sage's heart and is a true offering. [Seng]zhao says: Bhaiṣajyarāja Tathāgata knew he was ready to be transformed, and thus manifested as a deity of the sky to address him. [Dao]sheng says: As for the offering of the Dharma, practicing the Dharma is itself making the offering.
