[Kumāra]jīva says: These are the sūtras of the five baskets: the three piṭakas, the miscellaneous piṭaka, and the bodhisattva piṭaka. Taking the profound meanings from within these four baskets to expound the true mark and so on, they are thus qualified as profound sūtras. From here downwards, all that is spoken by the buddhas of the ten directions and the three times extensively praises the profound sūtras spoken by the buddhas; it has not yet explained the meaning of receiving, upholding, and practicing the offering of the Dharma. [Dao]sheng says: First he clarifies the sūtras. 'Profound sūtras' refers to the Buddha speaking the Dharma of the true mark to serve as the bodhisattva path.
