[Kumāra]jīva says: Pure livelihood is right livelihood. Thinking to oneself: 'From birth until now I have constantly practiced right livelihood, so I will surely go to a good destiny. What shall I fear?' [Seng]zhao says: Do not give rise to wrong livelihood to save the body from illness. Wrong livelihood means flattering and posturing for the sake of survival, seeking profit to sustain life. [Dao]sheng says: When practicing good, one originally did so to attain the path and cross over the world, never seeking profit in clothing and food. If one does not even fear being dragged along by saṃsāra, how much less the suffering of transgressions?
