[Kumāra]jīva says: The bodhisattvas previously disdained his room as empty; now that offerings were made, it was because the master of the house was in sickness, and thus his spirit received his intention and presented the offerings. [Seng]zhao says: The goddess was a mahāsattva of the dharmakāya, who always joined the Spotless Name in propagating the Mahāyāna inconceivable path; hence she manifested as the household spirit, sharing the same room. Seeing the gathering of mahāsattvas and hearing the Dharma spoken, she manifested her body and scattered flowers, wishing to instigate debate. [Dao]sheng says: The goddess appearing and scattering flowers showed a humble status yet esteemed the Dharma, thereby reinforcing the attitude of venerating the Dharma. Secretly wishing to express the principle through an event, she clarified that she had no fear of saṃsāra, and thus, though entering it, remained undefiled. If one fears and avoids it, one will only become more attached.
