6.33

The bodhisattvas, great disciples, Śakra, Brahmā, the Four Heavenly Kings, and others had never seen the like before. The room expanded and contained all thirty-two thousand lion thrones without any obstruction; nor did it crowd the city of Vaiśālī, Jambudvīpa, or the four continents, which all appeared as before. At that time, Vimalakīrti said to Mañjuśrī: "Take a lion throne and sit together with the bodhisattvas and superior persons, matching the stature of your bodies to the likeness of those thrones." The bodhisattvas who had attained spiritual penetrations immediately transformed their bodies to forty-two thousand yojanas and sat upon the lion thrones. The newly resolved bodhisattvas and great disciples were all unable to ascend. At that time, Vimalakīrti said to Śāriputra: "Take a lion throne." Śāriputra said: "Householder, this throne is lofty and vast; I am unable to ascend it."
