[Kumāra]jīva says: The Sanskrit text says 'attains the form and formless realms'. When ordinary people are born there, they deem it the foremost and most supreme nirvāṇa. Now, [the bodhisattva] takes birth there conditioned by volitional action, yet does not consider it supreme. [Seng]zhao says: The path of the upper two realms is the cause for obtaining existence; though sharing in their practice, [the bodhisattva] understands their lowliness.
