7.200

[Kumāra]jīva says: In future worlds when the kalpa ends, warfare arises, and human lifespan is ten years. Vasumitra descends from Trāyastriṃśa Heaven to be born into a royal house as a crown prince, and converts the multitude, saying, 'Our ancestors had extremely long lifespans. Because of current anger and lack of compassion, we have incurred this short lifespan. Therefore you must practice a mind of benevolence.' The multitude obeyed the command, and evil thoughts gradually diminished. Thereafter the children born had a lifespan of twenty years, and in this way it continued progressively until the time of Maitreya, when it reaches eighty-four thousand years.
