At that time, Mahākāśyapa praised [him], saying: "Excellent, excellent! Mañjuśrī, delightfully have you spoken these words. Truly it is as you say: the company of defiling toils is the seed of the Tathāgata. We now are no longer capable of producing the mind of anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi; even those guilty of the five sins of immediate retribution can still give rise to the intention and give birth to the Buddha's teachings, whereas we now can never produce it. It is like a man of ruined faculties: with regard to the five desires he can no longer derive benefit. In this way, śrāvakas who have cut off all fetters no longer provide any benefit within the Buddha's teachings and never aspire to them."
