Another recension reads: 'They do not attach to their own joy, but celebrate the joy of others.' [Kumāra]jīva says: Ordinary worldlings (pṛthagjana), seeing the joy of others, give rise to jealousy; seeing others' suffering, their minds feel at ease. At their own joy, they develop attachment; at their own suffering, their minds become perturbed. Bodhisattvas are not like this: seeing the joy of others, they are not jealous and their minds sympathize and rejoice (anumodana); seeing others' suffering, their minds are moved and wish to deliver them; at their own joy, they do not attach, and in their own suffering, their minds remain tranquil.
