[Kumāra]jīva says: It means thought free of grasping at marks. When ordinary worldlings practice conceptual wisdom, their pride and conceit increase even more; therefore, bodhisattvas seek thoughtless wisdom. [Seng]zhao says: True wisdom lacks cognitive conditions (ālambana), hence it is named 'thoughtless'. Conventional wisdom possesses cognitive conditions, and therefore conceptual thoughts arise from it.
