[Dao]sheng says: Within seven days there will surely be an attainment. Yet through the awakening of a single meal, one cannot advance across two stages. Stopping at being bound to one more birth is because buddhahood cannot be attained from any further [external] cause. How could a bodhisattva of non-arising or a person of the correct status still rely on what is external in order to advance? Yet to speak in this way now is to clarify that this rice represents the culmination of proclaiming the principle, fully possessing all its significance.
