問曰：此法名為解脫，於彼心慧二解脫中何門所收？釋言：兼通。體則心脫、用則慧脫，真識之心離染名脫，故體是心、慧用無為，名解脫故。用是慧故，《涅槃》中說慧解脫開出五道，明知通用悉是慧脫。

Question: This dharma is called liberation; between the two liberations of mind and wisdom, which gate subsumes it? Explanation: It combines and communicates with both. In essence it is mind liberation; in function it is wisdom liberation. The mind of true consciousness being free from defilement is called liberation, so the essence is mind; wisdom's function being unconditioned is called liberation, so the function is wisdom. Because the function is wisdom, in the Nirvāṇa [Sūtra] it is said that wisdom liberation opens out to five paths; one clearly knows that its universal function is entirely wisdom liberation.
