「弟子品」者，此品之中命聲聞弟子問疾。良以聲聞學在佛後，故名為弟；從佛化生，故復稱子。從其所告以題章目，名弟子品。

"Chapter on the Disciples": In this chapter, the śrāvaka disciples are commanded to inquire after his illness. Truly, because śrāvakas learn behind the Buddha, they are called "younger brothers" (di); because they are born through the Buddha's transformation, they are also called "sons" (zi). From those who were addressed, the chapter title is established, called the "Chapter on the Disciples."
