問曰：菩提在於後際，云何無處？釋言：據凡望於菩提，菩提在當；若據菩提實性以論，體外無凡。既無生死凡夫在此，焉得宣說菩提為彼？故無住處。以無處故，修證無所，故無得者。

Question: Bodhi lies in the future limit; why is it without location? Answer: Looking toward bodhi from the perspective of an ordinary person, bodhi lies in the future; if discussed according to the real nature of bodhi, outside of its essence there is no ordinary person. Since there is no ordinary person of birth and death present here, how could one speak of bodhi as being there? Therefore it has no abiding place. Because it has no location, there is no place to cultivate or realize it, and hence there is no attainment.
