From here on, the eighth section clarifies that there is no attainment. Within this there are three turns: First, Śāriputra asks: 'How long until you attain anuttarabodhi?' The goddess answers in reverse: 'When Śāriputra returns to being an ordinary person, then I will attain it.' Second, Śāriputra shows that his becoming an ordinary person is an impossibility. Relying on this, the goddess clarifies that her having an attainment of anuttarabodhi is likewise an impossibility. First she briefly distinguishes it; from 'For what reason' onward, she explains it. In 'Because bodhi has no location, there is no attainment', as the earlier text states, 'Bodhi is free from characteristics, and therefore cannot be attained by the body or attained by the mind.' Now saying that because it has no location, it therefore cannot be attained, is another distinct meaning.
