Next, the third [major division] clarifies Vimalakīrti receiving the rice from the emanation, and reveals Vimalakīrti's inconceivable power by which a small room accommodates widely, causing those newly arrived bodhisattvas to feel deep reverence. Therein are four parts: first, Vimalakīrti emanates nine million lion thrones, lofty and vast as before, causing those newly arrived bodhisattvas to sit upon them; second, the emanation bodhisattva presents the rice he had obtained to Vimalakīrti; third, it clarifies that the fragrance of the rice universally perfumes Vaiśālī and the trichiliocosm; fourth, because the fragrance universally perfumes, all the assemblies gather like clouds. This is the benefit of the fragrant rice. Therein, first it clarifies that upon smelling the fragrance they were joyful and verbally praised it as unprecedented. In explaining the gathering like clouds: first it clarifies the assembly of humans gathering like clouds; from "The earth spirits..." onward, the remaining assemblies gather like clouds. Among humans: first it separately lists the assemblies, next their coming and entering the house, and afterwards clarifies that seeing it they rejoiced and paid homage. Below it clarifies that they withdrew and stood to one side; the remaining assemblies can be understood accordingly. This completes the third.
