3.103

一、明發菩提心者，如釋迦牟尼菩薩，於過去世為陶師，值前釋迦牟尼佛，供養彼佛已，即發菩提心「願未來得作佛時，還名釋迦」，時佛可其願也。

First, clarifying the generation of the bodhicitta: for example, when Bodhisattva Śākyamuni was a potter in a past lifetime, he encountered the former Śākyamuni Buddha. Having made offerings to that buddha, he immediately generated the bodhicitta: "I vow that when I attain buddhahood in the future, I will also be named Śākyamuni." At that time the Buddha approved his vow.
