大段第五明教相者，前大段四重，釋此經一部正意略顯，但此經與眾經有同有異，事須分別。而前明四教，處處簡別教相，辨眾經同異，大意略應可見。但恐散明教相同異，尋者或未明了，今須更釋此經同異之相，就此即為四意：

As for the fifth major section, clarifying the characteristics of the teaching: The preceding fourfold major sections have briefly revealed the primary intention of this entire sūtra. However, there are similarities and differences between this sūtra and various other sūtras, and these matters must be distinguished. While the preceding discussion of the four teachings differentiated the characteristics of the teaching at every point and distinguished the similarities and differences among various sūtras so that the general idea should be broadly apparent, yet out of concern that scattered explanations of similarities and differences in the characteristics of the teaching might leave inquirers without clear understanding, it is now necessary to further explain the characteristics of similarity and difference of this sūtra. In this there are four points:
