Tenth, regarding the ground of the Buddha: The power of great merit supports wisdom; one attains the wisdom corresponding [to reality] in a single thought, illuminating the real and conventional to their ultimate depths, and all residual habits within the realm [of saṃsāra] are completely and definitively exhausted. Therefore the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa says: 'The wisdom-power of the śrāvaka is weak, like a small fire burning wood: though burned, charcoal still remains. The wisdom-power of the pratyekabuddha is superior, like a large fire burning wood: the wood burned, the charcoal exhausted, yet ashes still remain. The wisdom-power of the buddhas is vast, like the fire that consumes an eon: charcoal and ashes are both exhausted.' It is also like the simile of the three beasts—the hare, the horse, and the elephant—crossing the river.
