First, briefly clarifying the opening of the three vehicles: Regarding the unspeakable principle of non-three concerning arising and arising, the Buddha used the four siddhāntas, based on suffering, origination, and the path, to open the teaching gates of the three vehicles, responding to the roots and capacities of the three kinds of practitioners, causing them together to attain the cessation truth of nirvāṇa. Therefore the Lotus Sūtra says: "For those seeking to be śrāvakas, he preached the dharma responding to the four truths to cross beyond birth, old age, sickness, and death, to ultimate nirvāṇa; for those seeking to be pratyekabuddhas, he preached the dharma responding to the twelve links of dependent origination; for those seeking to be bodhisattvas, he preached the dharma responding to the six pāramitās, causing them to attain sambodhi and accomplish all-aspect wisdom."
