Fourth, explaining the meanings of Pure, Stainless, and Fame according to the stages of the perfect teaching: this teaching expounds the principle that dependent origination is identical to the one real truth, the inconceivable liberation, the sky-like buddha-nature, the great parinirvāṇa, and the realm of reality of all buddhas. If a bodhisattva receives this teaching-door, although the principle is neither deep nor shallow, those who realize it nonetheless possess stages of depth and shallowness. Now, explaining entry into the path in this teaching, it also fully possesses four doors, but the Mahāyāna sūtras mostly employ the "door of neither emptiness nor existence." Just as in this sūtra the bodhisattvas each explain "entering the dharma-door of non-duality," though provisionally the same at first glance, on close inspection there is indeed the distinction of the four doors, yet they mostly employ the "door of neither emptiness nor existence" to enter the inconceivable liberation. This meaning will naturally become apparent below. Here, there are briefly three points: first, differentiating the difference in the explanation of stages between the distinctive and perfect teachings; second, properly explaining the determination of stages in this teaching; third, explaining the meanings of Pure, Stainless, and Fame according to the stages of the perfect teaching.
