Second, properly explaining the common title: that is, explaining the single character "jing" (sūtra). If we rely on the Indian language, the beginning of the Buddhist teachings is commonly marked as sūtra (xiuduoluo), or xiudanluo, or xiudulu, just as in this land there are regional dialects of Chu and Xia. As for "sūtra" (sūtra), since it is a foreign word, the explanations of ancient and modern masters differ: some say it is untranslatable, while others say it is translatable. Now, in explaining this meaning, there are briefly five senses: first, clarifying that it is untranslatable; second, clarifying that it is translatable; third, harmonizing and synthesizing the translatable and untranslatable; fourth, interpreting by traversing dharmas; fifth, based on contemplating the mind.
