Second, specifically explaining the name of inconceivable liberation proper: it is liberation not apart from words. Therefore the goddess said: 'The characteristic of liberation is not internal, external, or in between the two. The characteristic of words is likewise not internal, external, or in between the two.' Therefore, the nature of words being detached is itself liberation. Liberation is none other than all dharmas. Now, clarifying that because it does not arise from self-liberation, its name is not established in terms of self-nature; because it does not arise from other-liberation, its name is not established in terms of other-nature; because liberation does not arise from self and other, its name is not established in terms of common nature; because liberation does not arise apart from self and other without causes and conditions, its name is not established in terms of causeless nature. If establishing the name of liberation from arising through causes and conditions is already unobtainable, how much less could its name be established from causeless arising! That liberation does not arise based on the four extremes, nor is the name of liberation established based on the meaning of the four natures, is precisely that the characteristic of liberation is not internal, external, or in between the two, and the characteristic of names is likewise not internal, external, or in between the two; the detachment from the characteristics of names is itself liberation. Liberation is none other than all dharmas; hence know that bondage is also like this. Consequently, the bondage and liberation of names are non-bondage and non-liberation; yet that there are the names of bondage and liberation is the inconceivable bondage and liberation. Inconceivable bondage is itself inconceivable liberation. Therefore, this sūtra says: 'The natures of lust, anger, and delusion are themselves liberation.' Abiding in this inconceivable liberation, one can perform various manifestations. If it is liberation apart from words, it is severing afflictions and entering nirvāṇa; if it is liberation not apart from words, it is entering nirvāṇa without severing afflictions, which is called inconceivable liberation.
