3.36

「若至博弈戲處輒以度人」，博謂博塞，弈是圍碁之類。輒以度人者，化令不著無記掉散空喪出世之功，當各隨根性求於四種出世實利，名為度人。令入不思議解脫，置四土也。所言輒者，機起即化，不待諮請。

"When he went to places of gambling and games, he always delivered people": "gambling" refers to board games and dice, and "games" refers to such things as wéi-qí. "He always delivered people" means that he transformed them so that they would not be attached to indeterminate, agitated dissipation and emptily forfeit the merit of transcending the world; according with their individual capacities, they were to seek the four kinds of actual worldly transcendence—this is called "delivering people." He caused them to enter inconceivable liberation and placed them in the four lands. What is meant by "always" is that as soon as the capacity arose, he immediately transformed them, not waiting to be asked.
