「雖明世典常樂佛法」，此方世典即五經等，西土即四韋陀十八大經仙方呪術等。常樂佛法，常樂四教所明佛法，引導令入不思議解脫四佛土也。但法身本地三德祕密而能熏業，置毒於乳方便引物同歸四土，入不思議法門也。

"Although well-versed in secular texts, he always took pleasure in the Buddha's Dharma": the secular texts of this land are the Five Classics and the like; in the Western land they are the four Vedas, the eighteen great scriptures, the methods of the ṛṣis, spells, and arts. "Always took pleasure in the Buddha's Dharma" means that he always took pleasure in the Buddha's Dharma clarified by the four teachings, guiding beings so that they would enter inconceivable liberation and the four buddha-lands. It is simply that the secret three virtues of the fundamental ground of the dharmakāya can perfume actions; putting poison into milk, he used expedient means to lead beings together back to the four lands and to enter the inconceivable Dharma door.
