3.54

「若在內官，內官中尊，化政宮女」，外國國法以七世不邪行有德者以為內官，委信入宮整理內事以為心祕。淨名迹示最上無過，為所尊也。宮女既被外制，內生邪想覆宿善根，大士赴機說四八道，令得正見，引入四土。

"When among court officials, he was honored among court officials, transforming and governing the women of the palace": by the national laws of foreign countries, those who have not committed sexual misconduct for seven generations and possess virtue are made court officials, entrusted to enter the palace to manage internal affairs as intimate confidants. Vimalakīrti manifested the supreme, flawless state in his trace, being honored by them. Palace women, being constrained from without, generate improper thoughts within, which cover their past roots of goodness; the Mahāsattva, responding to their capacities, preached the four eightfold paths, causing them to attain right view and leading them into the four lands.
