From "with a single [portion of food] … up to may eat" is the second [part], clarifying the function of the food. Kāśyapa attained conceivable joy of the Dharma and dhyāna bliss, which lacks vast and great function. The bodhisattva relies on the inconceivable joy of the true Dharma and dhyāna bliss, roaming simultaneously through the two truths to attain worldly and transworldly food; therefore he can give a single portion of food to all, making offerings to all buddhas and assemblies of worthy ones and sages, just like bringing a single bowl of rice from Sarvagandhasugandha, which, even when eaten by the whole assembly, is still not exhausted; this is a true recipient of offerings. Being able to repay the donors, externally he is a true field [of merit], and only then may he eat. Since he cannot do so, how could he inwardly receive the food of illusory dhyāna bliss and outwardly fail to be a good field, yet abandon the rich to receive from the poor, causing neither rich nor poor to obtain true blessings and benefits?
