From "Constantly abiding in" up to "two characteristics," the second part discerns the characteristics of the true divine eye. This means constantly abiding in the Śūraṅgama and other great samādhis, which is also called constantly abiding in the deep dhyāna cave of the Mahāparinirvāṇa, and is likewise the characteristic of the samādhi of cessation wherein all sentient beings are extinguished. "Seeing the buddha-lands" means quiescent yet constantly seeing, just as all myriad images appear in a clear mirror or pure water. "Not by means of two characteristics" means unlike the conditioned, fabricated characteristics of the Brahmā kings and non-Buddhists, and unlike the unconditioned, biased truth of the two vehicles, which is dark and without perception. Furthermore, "not by means of two characteristics" means that the true divine eye of the Middle Way is not the characteristics of the two truths, yet it can universally illuminate the four lands and the two kinds of birth-and-death; dying here and being born there, circumstantial and direct [retribution] both appearing in the king of samādhis—this is precisely the true divine eye.
