6.100

「時維摩至法施」，三、淨名因施瓔珞說法施會。若施乞人猶如如來福田之相，無所分別，此即觀所施之田入平等法界無有二相，成無緣大悲，具足一切佛法。不求緣修之報，即是具足法施之會。如此明文，諸師何得但約說法以明法施？

"At that time Vimalakīrti … the gift of Dharma": third, Vimalakīrti takes the occasion of bestowing the necklace to explain the assembly of the gift of Dharma. If giving to a beggar is [seen] without discrimination, just like the appearance of the field of merit of the Tathāgata, this is contemplating the field bestowed upon as entering the equal Dharma realm without duality of marks; it accomplishes great compassion without an objective condition, and is fully endowed with all buddha-dharmas. Not seeking retribution through conditioned cultivation is precisely to be fully endowed with the assembly of the gift of Dharma. With such an explicit text, how can the various masters explain the gift of Dharma solely in terms of preaching the Dharma?
