From "If Maitreya" to "neither two nor different" is the second [section], concluding the juxtaposition. It also has four meanings: first, in terms of sentient beings; second, in terms of all dharmas; third, in terms of all sages and worthies; fourth, in terms of Maitreya. Regarding these four rounds, it also implicitly concerns the three teachings. First, the juxtaposition in terms of the Common Teaching also has three progressive and one reverse. First, progressively concluding the juxtaposition in terms of sentient beings, it says: "If Maitreya receives prophecy, all sentient beings should also receive prophecy." Since the two suchnesses are one, both should receive prophecy. Vimalakīrti then personally explains: "For suchness is neither two nor different." If there were two or different, one might allow one to receive prophecy and one not; since there are neither two nor different, both should receive prophecy.
