四、明因疾出六品者，淨名詫疾意在興教，因文殊問權實之疾，答權疾出此品上半，答實疾出此品下半。又因權疾廣說〈不思議品〉，因實疾廣說〈觀眾生品〉、〈佛道品〉〈入不二法門品〉、〈香積品〉，是故室內六品皆從疾之一字權實故有。入文帖釋，當如符契。

Fourth, explaining the production of the six chapters because of illness: Vimalakīrti feigned illness with the intent of raising the teaching. Because Mañjuśrī asked about provisional and real illness, answering provisional illness produces the first half of this chapter, and answering real illness produces the second half of this chapter. Furthermore, because of provisional illness, he broadly expounded the 'Inconceivable Chapter'; because of real illness, he broadly expounded the 'Contemplating Sentient Beings Chapter', the 'Buddha Path Chapter', the 'Entering the Non-dual Dharma Gate Chapter', and the 'Fragrance Accumulation Chapter'. Therefore, the six chapters inside the room all arise from the single character 'illness', provisional and real. Entering the text to match and explain them will fit like tallies.
