6.35

問：上弟子菩薩皆被呵斥，今光嚴直為說道場義未見折屈，何辭不堪？答：聞圓道場冥然不解，此即是屈。心既已伏，請問道場，即須為說，不俟更呵，故不堪問疾。

Question: The disciples and bodhisattvas above were all rebuked and scolded; now Prabhāvyūha was simply spoken to about the meaning of the bodhimaṇḍa and was not seen to be broken or bent—why does he decline as unworthy? Answer: Hearing of the perfect bodhimaṇḍa, he was completely at a loss and did not understand; this itself was being bent. Since his mind was already subdued and he requested to be asked about the bodhimaṇḍa, it was then necessary to explain it to him without waiting to rebuke him further; therefore he is unworthy to inquire after the illness.
